Open Educational Resource Evaluation

This page contains a template to use to evaluate Open Educational Resources for use in educational materials for instructional designers and teachers. There is also an example of a cash and accrual accounting material that was evaluated for use in a subsequent course. Using this evaluation template keeps the instructional designer focused on whether the tools they are incorporating into the training enhancing the training and supporting the objectives.

Evaluation Template

My evaluation template for evaluating Open Educational Resources is provided here.

A sample use of this form is shown here with the evaluation of cash vs accrual accounting material from an open educational resource.

The second example was based on a digital document that I put together and I added another line on my template for the evaluation of the design principles of Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity.

For the third example I used a flyer I had created for a pet sitting service where I enhanced digital images to increase interest and retention.

For the fourth example here is one on a storyboard/video I created for professional development of emergency managers. This is a digital video that provide content that students can watch outside of class and then discuss in class if it were used in a flipped classroom.

For the fifth example here is one on a screencast I created on how to set up a project in Wrike. For this project I wanted to provide students with a screencast that they could follow on how to do it. Then they can use this as a resource and follow along and pause it as they follow along.

For the sixth example, this is an OER evaluation on a digital audio project for elearning. This would enhance retention through the auditory senses.

For the seventh example, this is an OER evaluation for the use of an authoring tool to develop 5 lessons on professional development for emergency managers.
